I don’t know about your Facebook feed, but mine is alive with dreams of colored leaves, pumpkin lattes and apple picking. Seems safe to say that everyone is (im)patiently awaiting autumn to arrive. Count me among that group. I’ve already swapped out my summer beach-inspired candles for warm, spicy scents and moved my sweaters from the back of my closet to the front.
The transition time between seasons can be a sartorial challenge, so I wanted to share some of my recent finds with you all in the hopes that it will fuel your creativity as you navigate your way through the fall sales.
*word of warning: this post is suuupper heavy on the Kate Spade. Not intentional, they just seem to be on point lately!
Leopard Heels – Kate Spade Charm Heels in Leopard [similar | similar, under $100] While leopard is a neutral that knows no seasonal bounds, it will add a kick to your fall outfits.
While it’s still warm: pair these with a fun white sundress and hold on to the last bits of summer.
When it cools off: you’ll love these with a little black dress and opaque black tights (maybe in a fun pattern!) for a chic look.
Strappy Purple Heels – Kate Spade Ivy in Purple [similar in blue tones | similar under $100]
These were a love-at-first-sight moment that I’ll remember forever. The sweet little bows, the sexy straps, the seductive purple satin… I swoon!
While it’s still warm: add a hint of sweetness by pairing these with denim cutoffs and a flowy blouse.
When it cools off: they’ll compliment a navy swing dress perfectly. Don’t forget the black tights if it’s chilly.
Crystal Embellished Flats – Kate Spade Mixer in Grey and Jewel [ballet flat version | similar under $100]
I call these my “Cinderella” shoes. The blue-toned grey leather is reminiscent of the princess, and the crystals add punch of glitz.
While it’s still warm: wear these with a bridesmaid dress for a truly royal feeling at an end-of-summer wedding.
When it cools off: face cloudy fall afternoons head-on by wearing these with your favorite black skinny jeans and a dusty blue cashmere sweater on a pumpkin-spice-latte date.
Magnolia Park Laurel bag in Moody Plum [available in black]
Not sure if it was the color itself, or the name of it – Moody Plum – that drew me to this bag, but I knew I couldn’t leave without it. The shape feels very Celine-like, and the color felt modest – almost like a black – but an excellent change of pace. Also, I love how this can be transformed into a whole new bag with the addition of the shoulder strap and also by tucking in the suede sides to give it a more demure, rectangular shape.
While it’s still warm: pair this with a fun shift dress and a hip-length white vest.
When it cools down: three words: all. black. everything. For those days that all black sounds like heaven, this bag will give you a cool nudge of color (this plum is too relaxed to be called a ‘pop’) therefore adding a hint of interest to your outfit.
2 Park Avenue Beau in Dark&Stormy/Cream/Black [ on sale! ]
This is the ultimate in feminine-sophistication. The bow-shaped pocket on the front is so ladylike (and convenient for phone/keys) but the color blocking and neutral palette add an understated minimalist feeling. This handbag is every girl’s dream: it goes with everything.
While it’s still warm: let this quietly add a hint of girliness to a bright maxi dress and sandals.
When it cools off: I’m dying to wear this with my skinny jeans, thigh-high black suede boots and simple Italian-Merino sweater.
The Perfect Red Nail [ Christian Louboutin – Rouge Louboutin ]
I typically can’t wait for summer when everything is pinks and pastels and corals and happiness – but something about fall always screams RED to me. I’ll be adding this classically perfect red by Christian Louboutin’s new nail polish line in the designer’s signature color to my nail repertoire.
While it’s still warm: wear this with anything – it’s a classic!
When it cools down: see above. Classic, classic, classic.
The Eyeshadow Palette You’ll Reach For -[ TARTE Limited Edition Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette V1 ]
Yes, there are a million eyeshadow palettes. And yes, they all transition beautifully from summer to fall. So, what makes this one unique? Tarte has managed to get a lovely range of fabulous quality shadows into one nicely sized package while not neglecting the importance of a decent selection of mattes. All of this, in addition to the price point (nearly $20 than Urban Decay’s Naked range) make it a no-brainer.
While it’s still warm: reach for those beautiful champagne colors (try: Handpicked Flowers) all over the lid and balance it out with a nice matte (try: Breakfast in Bed) for a super easy, super simple look.
When it cools down: this is going to be your go-to for smokey eyes. Go for a plum smoky eye look by putting Fingerpaint Art all over the lid and Lavender Bubble Bath on the outer edge. Blend Mud Mask in the crease, brighten your inner corner with Rose Champagne and hit your browbone with French Manicure.
Okay, I’m cheating here by not providing advice on how to make these items transitional. They are simply basic – but so beautiful. I’m wearing them right now and can’t wait to keep wearing them this fall.
The key thing, when adding to your wardrobe, is versatility. Items like this scream fall, but can be worked into summer looks to get you through that weird August/September cooldown.
