I can hardly believe that just last month designer Jennyvi Dizon of Dizon Couture and I got together to talk about her runway show during New York Fashion Week in February.
She would create one plus gown for the show.
And I was going to be the one to wear it.
I let out a squeal that shattered windows.
Me. Crystal. Walking in a runway show in New York City! During Fashion Week!
As you can imagine, since then, I’ve been walking on clouds.
At the meeting, Jennyvi and I decided that we wanted to make you guys a part of the process. So, like the design ninja she is, she whipped out her sketch book and began drawing. Within minutes, she created five outstanding looks. We put them to a vote on our social media accounts – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The winning look will become reality as the actual gown I will wear in her show. Here’s the winning sketch!
Okay, now for the feels…
I’m the only plus girl in the event, and I struggle to find words to express how much that means to me. To be able to represent plus size women in bridal fashion during one of the biggest fashion events of the year just blows my mind. As a self-proclaimed princess, wearing a beautiful, couture wedding gown on the runway… I just have no words. I’m no Tess Munster, but I am just overjoyed to be a part of this whole movement.
As we get closer to Fashion Week (23 days!), I’ll be sharing updates on how I’m getting ready (skin care, exercise). Thank you to everyone who voted and, above all, thank you for supporting me. I am so humbled and thankful I get to share this with you!
