Natural Sundays

by Sunday, March 6, 2016

I’m a firm believer in once-a-week natural days. Between meetings, photo shoots, filming and traveling, my face & hair takes a lot of product. So, it’s so glorious to come back home to Phoenix and take care of my skin and relax.

After all of my errands are done (car washing, laundry, etc) I head into the bathroom and set up my Bluetooth speaker. I know that sounds weird, but I’ll be honest: I love to jam out in the shower. I always put on the same playlist: “Dance Class” (which I should just rename to “Sunday Shower Jams”, but anyway… )

Once in the shower, I get to work. I always shampoo my hair twice to get it squeaky clean and make sure there’s no residue left from my styling products. Then I move on to conditioner. Recently, I’ve been trying out the Clairol Intense Conditioner for Colored Hair. Since I dye my hair on a nearly monthly basis (the longest I push it is 6 weeks) I like using a heavier conditioner on Sundays to get my hair ready for the week. I use the one for Brunettes and the thing I like most about this conditioner is that it’s nearly the exact same conditioner you get in the box when you DIY dye your hair! I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve used dye box conditioner so sparingly to make it last as long as possible – so it’s awesome to have the ability to buy just the conditioner on it’s own! It makes my hair super shiny and keeps the color vibrant – which means I only need to touch up my roots.

While the Clairol conditioner does it’s thing in my hair, I move on to exfoliating – which just might be the most satisfying part of my entire routine. I use a stiff loofah and lavender scented tub of sugar scrub and go in. After I’m done washing and shaving, I rinse out my conditioner and towel off.

After I’m dry, I change into my lazy Sunday outfit: my favorite City Chic leggings, a Torrid bralette and a tank. I wash my face and reach for a mask (I’ve been breaking out lately so I’ve been using an anti-blemish one) and leave it on for 20 minutes while I rough dry my hair.

Once the mask is washed off, I hydrate immediately with Olay MicroSculpting Cream. It’s light but packs a punch, and has an SPF of 30 (always a winner in my book). While that soaks in, I get the water going for a cup of tea – the perfect end to my ritual. Back in the bathroom, I flat iron my hair (my natural texture is so unruly and needs to be tamed). Then I end the process with a tiny bit of texturizing spray like Pantene Pro-V Airspray so I can curl my hair easily the next morning and enjoy the delicious smell!

By the time I’m done, my tea is ready. Time to pop on Netflix and chill with Husband on the couch, enjoying each other’s company before a long work week ahead.
